Portledge

Historic Doors had the privilege of providing interior doors for the restoration of Portledge, a historic home designed by Horace Trumbauer in Bryn Mawr, PA. Our goal was to accurately replicate the magnificent original doors found throughout the house. The existing doors exemplified mastery in design and construction and were made over 100 years ago from highly figured, book-matched Honduran Mahogany.

Historic Doors measured every detail of each door type and reproduced them in construction drawings. Molding profiles and panel raises were precisely matched with cross sections properly composed and engineered, involving careful study and complicated joinery.

Fabrication took place at our shop, utilizing the same time-honored joinery techniques as the originals. The end result was a fitting compliment to the existing doors, the original millwork and to the success of the overall restoration process.
